'Privileged Information' Props/Costume:

 Props:

  • The film isn't particularly prop-heavy, and most items I will be using are simple household items
  • However, the distinct orange hat and scarf are purchases I will need to make - I will have to make sure that these items are bright and recognisable enough so that they stand out in the 'CCTV Image' reveal, that takes place in Act Two
  • I will also need to source the fake blood, and make sure that it looks realistic and not cartoonish

Costume:

LENA:

  • Red Mickey Mouse Disney pyjama top
  • Jogging bottoms 
  • Bright neon orange hat and orange scarf
  • Red fitted dress, preferably below the knee
  • Black shoes, with a small heel
  • Black three quarter length jacket OR black full length jacket
  • Jewellery should be minimum, but at least one necklace

SOUND GUY:

  • Plain black t-shirt
  • Khaki camo-style trousers 
  • White dirty trainers 
  • Braceletes 

Hair/Makeup:

LENA:

  • Winged eyeliner and heavy mascara
  • Hair should be unbrushed in opening sequence and tidied/brushed during the 'getting ready' sequence in Act One

SOUND GUY:

  • No prominent makeup, however, tattoos all up the right arm in a tattoo sleeve 
  • A few, sporadic tattoos on the left arm also

Notes on short film- 'Operator'

  Cinematography: Beginning- use of slow tracking/ dolly shots- contrasts with the action- we are hearing of people in danger, anxious and in need of assistance- the slow editing and shots allow us to take that in. Close-ups- can see all facial expressions- we are able to see the Operator's thought process as she deals with the woman on the phone. Mid-shot in profile- Actor is silhouetted by her computer screen- lit by her computer- clinical, harsh lighting, creates further drama and tension. Frequent close-ups of Operator- we can see her thought process/ expressions, and the slow editing allows us to focus on the action and what the pair are saying to each other.  lighting - electronically lit- adds to the clinical and coldness of the film- not really any warm tones present in colour. The simple Cinematography contrasts with the action- the stillness of the camera adds to the tension as the spectator is forced to focus on what the Operator is saying and the situation of the Caller

'Privileged Information' Plan for Sound/Soundtrack

 Composition: The plan for my entire soundtrack is that it will be self-composed - I recently completed an EPQ, in which I had to compose a musical, so have well-versed knowledge on how to use composition tools etc. Sound effects: The type writer sound effect is one of the only effects I should need for the film, which plays over the inter title at the beginning of the film I will also use the sound effect of an alarm clock Act One: For Act One, the film opens with a 'Peaceful 'Morning' Underscore'  - I want to lead the spectator into a false sense of security with this piece - also, create humour as it will only last a few seconds before being suddenly cut off by the sound effect of the alarm clock. Notes on short film- 'Echo'

 4 Specific Sound moments Notes: 1. Sound bridge- X2- noticed that this method is used quite frequently in short films- situates the viewer directly in the action from the beginning 2. When the actress is in the car- underlying tone of the engine- creates anticipation, suspense, used frequently throughout the first section of the film- creates ambiguity about the character and her emotions/ situation. 3. Score- dissonant chords- creates a sense of reflection as well as anticipation- the lack of intense/ dramatic score forces the viewer to reflect on the character- the chords also create a sense of underlying trauma.  4. The slow fade out of noise when the the character breaks down at the end- draws all focus and attention to the performance- the use of sound here is very effective- can see a busy environment + her crying hysterically- provides a comparison to the first time we see this scene- provides a character arc- as well as further ambiguity for the viewer on which traumatic phone
